Beta-Blockers

Beta Blockers

Beta-blockers are a class of drug that blocks the action of hormones such as adrenaline. As a result, the heart beats slowly and using less force which means it doesn't have to work as hard. Beta-blockers are useful for a variety of conditions.

Our range of beta-blockers treatments offer effective results.

We've asked (our favourite) doctor Dr Christian Jessen

to explain Beta-Blockers and the treatments available

What are beta blockers?

A beta blocker, is a class of medications that are particularly used to manage abnormal heart rhythms, and to protect the heart from a second heart attack after a first heart attack. They slow down your heart and ease its pumping strength. They are prescribed for several different conditions including high blood pressure, angina, some abnormal heart rhythms, heart, anxiety, migraine, glaucoma, and overactive thyroid symptoms. They are also sometimes known as beta antagonists, beta-adrenergic blocking agents, or beta-adrenergic antagonists.

How do they work?

Beta blockers work by blocking the effects of the hormone epinephrine, also known as adrenaline. When you take beta blockers, your heart beats more slowly and with less force, thereby reducing blood pressure. They block the effects of the hormone epinephrine, also known as adrenaline. Beta Blockers

UK Meds asked our favorite doctor, Dr. Christian Jessen, to explain Beta Blockers. Below is what he has to say.

Beta blockers are drugs most commonly used to treat high blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmias, congestive heart failure and angina. Regardless of the reason why you're taking them, they all work in the same way, by blocking a stress hormone called adrenalin (the fight or flight hormone that gets your heart racing when you are stressed, or excited. Beta blockers are also prescribed to people who had a heart attack, to help prevent another one occurring.

When you use this type of medicine, your heart beats at a slower and steadier rate, helping to reduce your blood pressure. It can have side effects, including a loss of libido, nausia, stomach pains, insomnia and cold hands and feet. You can find some beta blockers here at UK Meds (Propranolol). They are a prescription only medicine. You will need to fill out a questionaire for their GMC registered doctors to approve before proceeding with your order.
