Although an inherited condition is one of the most common causes (Healthline, 2020), hair loss can also be caused by Alopecia (alopecia areata) (NIAMS, 2021), which causes the hair to fall out in an irregular pattern, leaving a sparse bald patch or bald patches of thinning hair.
