More Information

Mirabegron

Betmiga, with mirabegron as the active ingredient, is a prolonged-release tablet used for the treatment of the symptoms of an overactive bladder.  Mirabegron is a selective beta3 adrenoceptor agonist.

Betmiga relaxes the muscles of the bladder, resulting in a decreased need of passing urine, an uncontrolled urge of passing urine, or incontinence.

For more information on the prescription medication patients should refer to the Betmiga patient information leaflet.

Betmiga contains mirabegron, a selective beta3 adrenoceptor agonist and used for the treatment of the symptoms of an overactive bladder.

The bladder’s muscle is the detrusor muscle. It may, at times, contract in uncontrollable spasms, often referred to as an overactive bladder. An overactive bladder may result in the need of passing urine, an uncontrolled urge of passing urine, or incontinence.

Mirabegron is different in how it from the standard antimuscarinic treatments for overactive bladders. Mirabegron relaxes the bladder’s detrusor muscle by stimulating the beta3 receptors found on the surface of the muscle cells. The relaxed bladder muscle helps increase the bladder’s capacity to hold urine, reducing the need to pee.

Betmiga tablets are prolonged-release tablets which release the medication slowly throughout the day.

The main benefit of using Betmiga is the relief it provides to the symptoms of an overactive bladder. Betmiga effectively relaxes the muscles of the bladder, increasing its capacity to hold urine and reducing the need to pass urine.

Take Betmiga as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand any instruction, ask your doctor to explain it.

Swallow the tablet whole without crushing, breaking, or chewing it. Take it with a full glass of water, with or without a meal.

It will help if you will take Betmiga tablet at about the same time each day to help you remember when to take your dose.

Continue taking this medication for a long as directed by your doctor. Do not stop your treatment with Betmiga even if you do not see immediate effects. Your bladder might need some time to adapt to the medication.

Betmiga will help you control your condition but it will cure it. Your symptoms will come back once you stop taking this medication.

In case you forget a dose, take it as right away as you remember. If it is 6 hours or less before your next Betmiga dose, you might as well skip the missed dose. Doubling your dose of Betmiga to make up for the missed dose is not necessary. It will increase your risk of side effects.

The usual dose of Betmiga is one 50 mg tablet taken regularly once daily, or as directed by your doctor.
