    What is Furosemide?

Furosemide belongs to a group of medications called diuretics (or "water tablets") which prevents too much salt being absorbed by your body, and instead allows it to pass through in your urine. This can effectively help to lower blood pressure and treat hypertension.

    How does Furosemide work?

Your kidneys work very hard at filtering out water, salts and waste from your blood. Whilst most of the salts and water are reabsorbed into your blood, some are left with the waste products which forms urine. How diuretics work is by stopping the salts and water from being reabsorbed back into your blood, so that more is instead passed through into your urine. This will cause you to need to urinate more often.

By getting rid of these extra salts, it removes them from your bloodstream. This decreases the amount of work your heart has to do and so in doing that, will lower your blood sugar.
