What is Duac?

Duac is an effective medication that is specifically formulated to reduce acne outbreaks. It minimises spots and pimples and improves skin without covering the issue. It is proven to treat mild to moderate cases of acne including whiteheads, blackheads and pimples.

It contains 2 active ingredients – Benzoyl peroxide and Clindamycin phosphate. It is classified as an antibiotic that attacks bacteria causing spots.

How does Duac work?

The gel contains two active ingredients designed to prevent acne.

  • Clindamycin attacks the particular bacteria causing infection. It stops the bacteria from creating cell walls. The bacteria will not be able to function properly to replicate and starts to die while the body’s natural defences remove it.
  • Benzoyl peroxide is keratolytic. It breaks down keratin, the protein that forms part of the skin. By breaking down keratin, the top layers of the skin shed, removing blackheads and whiteheads while unblocking sebaceous glands. It also contains antibacterial agents that kill the bacteria on the skin.

How to take Duac?

This topical acne is easy to use and is applied to the affected area directly. Wash hands before applying. Wash the face and pat it dry. Apply a thin amount of gel to the affected area and rub gently. The best time to apply the gel is in the evening. Avoid the eyes, broken skin and lips.

The standard dosage of the topical gel is 3%/5% that is equal to 20mg/50mg. The dose of Clindamycin phosphate is set to 10mg while Benzoyl peroxide is either 20mg or 50 mg depending on the acne’s severity.
