UK Meds asked our favorite doctor, Dr. Christian Jessen, to explain Diabetes. Below is what he has to say.

Diabetes is a disease which impairs the body's ability to produce insulin, resulting in the abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates, which leads to elevated levels of blood glucose. People with diabetes can experience a number of complications including skin and eye problems, nerve damage that can cause painful tingling sensation in the hands and feet, kidney disease that can eventually lead to kidney failure, high blood pressure and much more.

Symptoms of diabetes can include blurred vision, feeling tired, increased thirst and the need to pee more frequently. Diabetes can be managed with dietary changes, exercise and medications. If you have diabetes it is very important to take your medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor and always attend your regular checkups. For convenience you can order your diabetes medications, such as Competact, Glucophage SR, Metformin and Onglyza from UK Meds.

What is Onglyza?

ONGLYZA is a prescription medicine used along with diet and exercise to lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. Onglyza (saxagliptin) is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels. It works by regulating the levels of insulin your body produces after eating. Onglyza is for people with type 2 diabetes. It is sometimes used in combination with other diabetes medications, but is not for treating type 1 diabetes.

How to buy Onglyza online?

It is purchased online by completing an online consultation form. If ordered before 4:30PM it will be delivered the next day.

How to take Onglyza?

Onglyza is an oral medication taken once a day in treating type 2 diabetes by controlling blood sugar levels. It is used combined with other diabetes treatments but never with treating type 1 diabetes. It works by regulating and controlling the body’s insulin levels produced after a meal. To get best results, it must be taken with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

How does Onglyza work?

Onglyza is a DPP-4 inhibitor and contains saxagliptin as an active ingredient. It stimulates the digestive hormones responsible for the increase of insulin levels released after each meal. These hormones are called incretin. They force the pancreas in producing more insulin when the levels of glucose in the blood are high. Insulin is important in effectively controlling blood sugar levels in people with diabetes.

How to take Onglyza?

The tablet must be taken once daily with or without food. Take the meds exactly as advised. If you want to change the dosage, always consult with a doctor or nurse. It can be combined with other meds like metformin, thiazolidinedione and gliclazide.

It comes in a tablet form of either 2.5 mg or 5 mg dosage. If you have kidney problems, the doctor recommends the use of 2.5 mg dosage rather than the 5mg. The doctor will suggest the best dosage before issuing treatment.

Side effects and precautions

The side effects are small and manageable or require just a change of treatment. The common side effects are indigestion, fatigue and dizziness, and muscle pains. The rare side effects are dermatitis, allergic reactions and inflammation of the pancreas.
