More Information

Xyloproct ointment is used to relieve the inflammation, itching, and pain associated with haemorrhoids, anal fistula, anal fissures, inflammation of the rectum, and itching of the external female genitalia.

Xyloproct ointment has hydrocortisone and lidocaine as two active ingredients.

Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation. Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic that numbs the sensation in the area where the medicine is applied.

Xyloproct contains lidocaine and hydrocortisone.

Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic that numbs the area where the medicine is applied. Lidocaine works by blocking temporarily the pathway of pain message along the nerve fibres, providing relief from the pain and itching.

Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid for reducing inflammation. Inflammation is caused by the release of natural substances that are important in the immune system. These substances are responsible for the widening of the blood vessels, resulting in irritation, redness, swelling, itchiness, and pain. Hydrocortisone acts inside the cells to decrease the production of these substances. When applied to the anus area, it acts to reduce the swelling and itching of haemorrhoids and other conditions.

The main benefits of using this product are the relief of the itch, redness, and pain associated with haemorrhoids and other problems in the anal area, and the reduction of inflammation.

Xyloproct should be used exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the patient information leaflet that comes with the product package.

Xyloproct should not be taken by mouth. It needs to be applied to the affected area in the anal area.

If you have an infection in the area to be treated by Xyloproct, the infection should be treated separately with the appropriate anti-infectives at the same time you using Xyloproct.

If you experience any bleeding in your back passage or irritation in the application site after you applied the ointment, stop using it and immediately consult your doctor.

Using large quantities of topical corticosteroids over long periods of time may result in a large volume being absorbed into the bloodstream and may result in side effects in other parts of the body. Use this medicine only for a limited period of time, not exceeding the length of treatment recommended by your doctor, especially when applied to children.

This ointment must be stored in a refrigerator. It may be stored at room temperature, not higher than 25°C for not more than two months while using it. Any remaining ointment must be discarded after that period.

Xyloproct ointment may be applied several times a day depending on the severity of the condition.  When applying the ointment intrarectally, use a special applicator.

Xyloproct ointment, like other medications, may cause some unwanted side effects, although not everyone who uses this ointment experiences them.
