High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, can go unnoticeable. If left untreated, it could lead to serious problems including strokes and heart attacks. More than a quarter of the UK population have high blood pressure, so it's important to have your blood pressure checked regularly by your GP. You can also check yourself with a home blood pressure monitor.
Our range of high blood pressure treatments offer effective results.
High blood pressure, known medically as hypertension, is when the force of your blood pushing against the walls of your blood vessels is consistently too high. You will see your blood pressure written as two numbers, the average reading being 120 over 80. Now the first number represents the pressure of your blood as your heart is contracting. The second number is the pressure when the heart is relaxed, in between beats.
High blood pressure is diagnosed when repeated readings are consistently over 140 over 90. It's estimated that over one in three adults have high blood pressure, but because it doesn't cause any symptoms most don't realize they have it. Failing to treat hypertension can be dangerous as it increases your risk of heart attack and stroke. It can also lead to kidney failure and peripheral artery disease. These are much less likely to occur if hypertension is properly managed.
There are also prescription medicines which are very effective at lowering blood pressure, and these are available at UK Meds.
