Information for Period Delay Tablets

What Does a Period Tablet Delay Do?

Progesterone is a hormone that is naturally produced by the body. Norethisterone is a period delay tablet which functions similar to this particular hormone. A woman will be required to take one tablet of this within three times a day. This should be accomplished 3 days prior to a woman’s period and should be continued on for a maximum of fourteen (14) more days. This makes a total of seventeen (17) days. By taking this, a woman’s period will be delayed during the whole process and is estimated to start within three days after the last period delay tablet is taken.

What is Inside a Period Delay Tablet

Period delay tablets contain Norethisterone which is a form of progesterone, a female hormone, which prevents your uterus from getting rid of its lining as it usually does, when menstruation begins. It comes in the form of a tablet and the dosage strength to delay periods is 5 mg three times daily. You are required to start taking the tablet at least three days before your period is due and to continue taking it for the duration that you would like to delay your period.

The Duration Period Delay Tablets Can be Taken

It is highly recommended that the Norethisterone 5 mg Period Delay Tablets should be taken for only a maximym of 17 days. This specific amount of delay time is still considered safe. Once a woman stops taking the tablets, she is most likely to get her period within 3 days after. It must be important to indicate however, that this may vary for every woman. Another important thing to point out that this dosage of Norethisterone is not recommended to be used for a long period of time. Prolonged use may cause some side effects and may ultimately lead to hormone imbalance.

How to Take the Period Delay Tablets

Since Norethisterone has a dosage strength of 5mg, it should only be taken three times a day. If a tablet has not been taken within the day, still continue on with the prescribed dosage. It is highly imperative to remember to never take two doses at the same time, even if it is to make up for the skipped dosage. Do not forget to read the patient information leaflet because it will be able to provide in-depth instructions and information about this particular medication.

Are There Any Side Effects?

This period delay tablet essentially does not cause side effects if it is only taken for short time frame. On the other hand, some women might experience some side effects which may include the following: the feeling of depression, nausea, headaches, dizziness, rashes and itching. Some serious side effects may include migraines, fluid retention which can further cause high blood pressure, jaundice or thrombosis.

Is it a Good Protection Against Pregnancy?

Norethisterone is a period delay tablet and is not considered as a contraceptive. As such, it will not protect a woman from getting pregnant. However, one may still be able to consider taking a combined oral contraceptive pill instead. This type of medication is able to delay periods whenever the tablet-free period is removed.

When Should I Start Taking The Tablets?

Norethisterone should be taken at least three days before the estimated start of the next period. One tablet should be taken three times a day and only a maximum of 17 days is allowed to take this medication. It is important to point out, that certain types of medicines should not be taken with the following:
