More information

Airomir is a medicine that is used to treat asthma attacks or to relieve attacks of wheeziness or breathlessness.

Airomir contains a bronchodilator, which can open up the breathing tubes of the lungs and makes breathing easier. It can also help you to feel less wheezy, less breathless and less tight-chested.

Asthma can be a debilitating illness that hinders daily life, while onset attacks of breathlessness can be painful as well as worrying.

Taking Airomir will help to relieve these symptoms in the case of an asthma attack or an episode of wheezing or breathlessness.

This medication can also be taken after exercise or another exerting activity, to prevent an onset asthma attack from happening, while still allowing the user to enjoy daily life.

Airomir is a prescription-only medication. Always follow the advice of your doctor and read the patient information leaflet provided in the medication packet.

Your doctor or nurse should show you how to properly use your inhaler before starting on this medication. To administer, start by holding the inhaler with the mouthpiece at the bottom and then remove the cover. Shake the inhaler vigorously and then breathe out gently (but not fully), before quickly placing the mouthpiece in your mouth and closing your lips around it. Begin breathing in and out through your mouth (slowly and deeply) and then press down on the canister inside the inhaler. This will administer a puff, which you should breathe in and hold for 10 seconds. Breathe out slowly and then replace the mouthpiece cover after use.

You will be able to tell when the inhaler needs replacing by shaking it; if you cannot hear or feel any liquid in the canister then you probably need a new one. Ensure to clean your inhaler once a week to avoid any blockages where the medicine comes out.

Airomir contains the active ingredient salbutamol, at a strength of 100 micrograms per delivered dose.

The recommended dose is either one or two puffs as needed. If you have taken two puffs, then you should wait for four hours before taking another dose, and should also be careful never to exceed 8 puffs in a 24 hour period. If you find that you are taking the maximum dose and your symptoms persist then you should consult your doctor.

If you take more Airomir than you should, then contact your doctor or nearest emergency department immediately. Side effects of overdose include your heart beating faster than usual, feeling shaky, dizzy or weak, or developing a headache.

Before taking Airomir, you should always first consult your doctor. You should not take Airomir if any of the following apply to you:

  • are allergic to salbutamol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine

Your prescription of Airomir may also be affected by a number of other factors, so you should make your doctor aware if any of the following apply:

  • have thyroid problems
  • have diabetes
  • have serious heart disease
  • suffer from fast irregular heart rhythms or high blood pressure
  • have acute severe asthma
  • have hypoxia (a lack of oxygen in the body)
  • have a history of heart disease or angina

Like many medications with active ingredients, Airomir can affect or be affected by other medicines. Particular medications that you may experience this with include the following:

  • xanthines e.g. aminophylline or theophylline
  • Metronidazole
  • Disulfiram
  • Steroids
  • water tablets (diuretics)
  • Long-term laxatives
  • beta-blockers e.g. propranolol
  • medicines used to treat heart disease e.g. digoxin
  • monoamine oxidase-inhibitors (anti-depressants) e.g. phenelzine
  • tricyclic antidepressants e.g. amitriptyline or trazodone.

If you are taking any of the above medications, then you should make your doctor aware so that they can advise whether or not Airomir will be the best course of action for you.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding then you should consult your doctor before starting this medication, as only they can decide whether or not this medication would be suitable.

The most common side effects of using Airomir include:

  • Feeling tense
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Mild tremor (shaking), especially of the hands
  • Muscle pain

If you do experience one or more of these side effects and they persist or worsen, then inform your doctor right away. You should also contact your doctor if you notice any serious side effects such as worsening of breathing ability, swelling of the face or skin reactions.

You can safely buy Airomir online at UK Meds. You will first need to have an online consultation with a pharmacist independent prescriber before your order will be supplied. The online consultation will ensure that Airomir is the right medication for your medical condition.
