Read up

Avomine is an antiemetic drug, used to prevent sickness and nausea (especially motion sickness and vertigo).

Avomine contains promethazine which belongs to a group of medicines called phenothiazines. This antiemetic substance blocks the nausea and prevents you from feeling sick.

While travelling can be exciting, people who suffer from motion sickness can struggle with daily life. Whether they are affected on planes, cars, trains, buses or boats, it all falls under the umbrella of motion sickness and it disrupts travelling rather a lot.

Taking Avomine ensures you can travel without worries of feeling unwell.

Always follow the guidance given in the enclosed patient information leaflet and be sure to read it before commencing use of the medicine.

Take Avomine by swallowing the tablets whole with a drink of water, with or without food.

The recommended dose of Avomine varies based on the journey you are taking. For long journeys, take one tablet each night at bedtime, starting the night before you travel. For short journeys, take one tablet one or two hours before travelling.

Although Avomine is most effective as a preventative medicine, you can also take it once the motion sickness feeling sets in. To treat travel sickness that has already started, take one tablet as soon as you can after noticing the nausea and then take another that same evening. Take a third tablet the next day if needed.

Do not take Avomine for more than seven days. If symptoms still persist after this time then contact a doctor for advice.

If you forget to take your Avomine tablet then skip that dose and take the next one as normal. Do not double up on a dose to make up for a forgotten one.

If you take more Avomine than you should then contact a doctor or your nearest emergency department.

Before taking this medication, you should always first check that it is suitable for you and any of your associated medical conditions. Do not take Avomine if you have:

    • ever had an allergic reaction to promethazine, any phenothiazine or any of the ingredients
    • taken medicines for depression
    • CNS depression

Take special caution and talk to a doctor before taking Avomine if any of the following apply:

    • glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
    • epilepsy
    • heart problems
    • liver problems
    • kidney or bladder problems
    • a chest condition such as asthma or bronchitis
    • severe headaches with blurred vision, severe stomach pains with vomiting, dizziness, difficulty with keeping your balance, ringing in the ears or other ear problems
    • a bad cough
    • Reye’s Syndrome or symptoms of Reye’s Syndrome

Because of the way that medications interact with each other, you should talk to a doctor before taking Avomine if you are already taking any of the following medications:

    • medicines to help you sleep (hypnotics)
    • medicines for depression, mental illness or anxiety
    • medicines for crampy stomach pains, Parkinson’s disease or bladder problems.

Do not take Avomine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. You should also avoid alcohol while taking Avomine, as the drug can add to the alcohol’s effects.

The most common side effects of Avomine are:

    • headache,
    • dizziness,
    • feel tired or sleepy
    • blurred vision,
    • dry mouth
    • difficulty passing water
    • loss of appetite,
    • upset stomach

You should cease using Avomine immediately and contact your doctor if you experience any serious side effects or if you notice signs of an allergic reaction.

You can safely buy Avomine online at UK Meds, without the need for a prescription or consultation with a medical professional, however you should adhere to the advice given in the patient leaflet enclosed.
