Colpermin capsules are formulated with peppermint oil as its active ingredient. The capsules provide fast and gentle relief from the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome or IBS by relaxing the bowel muscle to help relieve the painful cramps while at the same time helping remove the pockets of trapped wind that caused bloating.

Irritable bowel syndrome can produce a variety of symptoms, including cramps, bloating, griping, abdominal spasms, diarrhoea or constipation. Colpermin capsules are used to relieve those symptoms.

Colpermin capsules are designed to survive the acid in the stomach and stay intact until they reach the small bowel, where they start working. Colpermin capsules are specifically formulated to relieve the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and provide rapid relief.

Colpermin capsules are protectively coated to allow them to remain in the stomach, allowing the capsules to release the active ingredient peppermint oil directly into the lower bowel. Peppermint oil helps in alleviating the symptoms by reducing the trapped wind, bloating and discomfort, relaxing the muscles in the intestines, and helping to regulate the bowel movements at a normal frequency.

Food moves through the intestines by constant contractions and relaxing of the bowel muscles. Irritable bowel syndrome causes these muscle contractions to become painful, creating the symptoms of pain, discomfort and bloating. Peppermint oil is a smooth muscle relaxant which reduces the contractions in order to help alleviate the symptoms of discomfort and pain.

Colpermin capsules are effective in providing rapid relief from the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Irritable bowel syndrome causes the muscle contractions of the bowel muscle to become painful, creating the symptoms of IBS. Peppermint oil, the active ingredient of Colpermin Capsules, is effective in relaxing the bowel muscle to relieve the pain and discomfort.

Adults from age 15 years and over should take one capsule three times a day. The capsules should not be taken immediately after eating. Avoid eating for 30 minutes to an hour after taking a dose.

If your discomfort and pain are severe, you can increase the dose to a maximum of two capsules taken three times a day.

The capsules should be swallowed whole with a drink of water. They must not be opened or chewed because it will damage the special coating that allows the capsules to reach the bowel. The peppermint oil can irritate the mouth or throat.

Do not take an antacid at the same time as Colpermin capsules or in the two hours before or after taking them.

You should keep taking the capsules until your symptoms get better, which should occur within one or two weeks. If the symptoms do not improve or have gotten worse after two weeks of taking Colpermin Capsules, consult your doctor.

You can continue taking Colpermin capsules for two to three months if the symptoms of IBS persist, but get the advice of your doctor first.

The usual dosage of Colpermin capsules for an adult is one capsule taken three times a day. If the discomfort and pain are severe, you can increase the dose to a maximum of two capsules taken three times a day.

Medicines and their side effects can affect individual users in different ways. Not everyone who uses Colpermin capsules will experience the possible side effects. Many users of the medication did not experience any of the possible side effects.

    • Heartburn
    • Indigestion
    • Discomfort or irritation around the anus
    • Burning sensation in the mouth
    • Allergic reactions such as a headache, rash, slow pulse rate, loss of coordination and shaking.  If you experience any of the symptoms of an allergic reaction, stop taking the medication and get medical help.

Colpermin capsules should not be taken by children under the age of 15 and by people who are allergic to any of the ingredients of the capsules.

You should consult a doctor before taking this medicine if any of the following conditions apply to you:

    • This is the first time you experience the symptoms of IBS
    • You are 40 years old or over and you have new symptoms of IBS
    • You passed blood in your stools
    • You feel sick or have vomited
    • You look pale or feel tired
    • You have lost your appetite or your weight
    • You have a fever

    • You have an abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge
    • You have difficulty or pain passing urine

You should stop taking Colpermin capsules if you suffer from heartburn. Colpermin can make your heartburn worse. Stop taking the medication.

Drinking alcohol while taking Colpermin capsules may increase the likelihood of side effects.

If you are pregnant or you think that you might be pregnant you should get first medical advice from your doctor before you start taking Colpermin capsules. Colpermin capsules should be used in pregnancy only when the doctor believes that the benefits outweigh the risk of side effects.

It is not known if Colpermin capsules pass into breast milk. You should get medical advice from your doctor before you take Colpermin capsules while breastfeeding.

Peppermint oil is not known to affect other medicines. However, you should not take indigestion remedies at the same time as Colpermin capsules or in the two hours before or after taking it. Indigestion remedies could dissolve the Colpermin capsules before they reach the bowel and make them less effective.
