More Information

Metrogel is a medicine used to treat pimples, spots and redness that are associated with the skin condition, rosacea.

Metrogel contains the active substance metronidazole (buy separately here), which has antibacterial qualities. It helps to control the infection and inflammation of skin conditions, such as rosacea.

Rosacea is a common disorder that mainly affects skin on the face, causing redness and small pimples. Over time, the redness can intensify and blood vessels may become visible. Sufferers treat their rosacea not only because of its physical effects but also the mental effects it can have, such as embarrassment and self-consciousness. Although the cause is not known, treating the condition with Metrogel is simple and effective.

Metrogel is a prescription-only medication. Always follow the advice of your doctor and read the patient information leaflet provided in the medication packet.

To apply, start by washing your face gently with warm water and mild soap and then pat dry with a towel. Squeeze a small amount of gel onto your fingertip, and then spread it gently and evenly across your whole face. Always ensure to wash your hands after use and replace the cap on the tube of gel.

Metrogel contains the active ingredient metronidazole, at a strength of 0.75%.

The recommended dose is a pea-sized amount of gel, applied twice daily, once in the morning and once before bedtime. It’s important to remember that treatment is not instant, and rosacea can take a while to respond to the medication. You should, therefore, keep using the gel until your doctor tells you to stop.

If you forget to use your Metrogel, skip the forgotten dose and move straight onto the next one. Don’t worry but don’t double up on your dose to make up for a missed one.

If you use more Metrogel than you should, simply wash it away with plenty of water. If anyone accidentally swallows any then go to the nearest emergency department immediately.

Before taking Metrogel, you should always first consult your doctor. You should not take Metrogel if any of the following apply to you:

  • If you are allergic to metronidazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine

Your prescription of Metrogel may also be affected by a number of other factors, so you should make your doctor aware if any of the following apply:

  • If you suffer from any blood disorders

Like many medications with active ingredients, Metrogel can affect or be affected by other medicines. Particular medications that you may experience this with include the following:

  • drugs used to reduce blood clotting (anticoagulants) such as warfarin

If you are taking any of the above medications, then you should make your doctor aware so that they can advise whether or not Metrogel will be the best course of action for you.

Take care to avoid getting this product in your eyes and if you do then carefully wash with plenty of water. While taking this medication, you should avoid exposure to the sunlight (such as sunbathing) and to ultraviolet light (such as sunbeds) and if you do go in the sun, be sure to use a high sun protection factor.

This medicine should only be taken for as long as it is required and is not intended to be a prolonged use product. If it’s been several months and your rosacea has not improved, you should consult your doctor about whether or not the treatment is working.

The most common side effects of using Metrogel include:

  • dry skin
  • redness of the skin
  • itching of the skin
  • skin discomfort (burning, pain, stinging)
  • skin irritation
  • worsening of rosacea

If you do experience one or more of these side effects and they persist or worsen, then inform your doctor right away. You should also contact your doctor if you notice any serious side effects.

You can safely buy Metrogel online at UK Meds. You will first need to have an online consultation with a pharmacist independent prescriber before your order will be supplied. The online consultation will ensure that Metrogel is the right medication for your medical condition.
