More Information

Celebrex is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID, specifically a COX-2 inhibitor that is used to provide relief to pain and inflammation. Celebrex is used to treat arthritis, acute pain, and menstrual discomfort. The relief from pain and inflammation that Celebrex provides helps you perform better your normal daily activities.

For more information on the prescription medication patients should refer to the Celebrex patient information leaflet.

Celecoxib

The active ingredient in Celebrex, celecoxib, works by blocking the enzymes in the body that makes prostaglandins. The reduction of prostaglandins will help you reduce pain and swelling.

The main benefit of taking Celebrex is to provide relief from the pain and inflammation associated with arthritis, menstrual discomfort, and other inflammations and pains.

Before you start taking Celebrex, it is important that you read first the medication guide provided by your pharmacist. Do the same thing each time you get a refill of the medication. Ask your pharmacist or doctor if you have questions about the use of the medication.

Take Celebrex orally as directed by your doctor, which is usually once or twice daily. Take Celebrex with food to reduce the risk of a stomach upset. The dosage of Celebrex is based on your medical condition and response to the treatment. Start taking Celebrex at the lowest effective dose for the prescribed length of treatment.

Take Celebrex with a full glass of water unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Do not lie down within ten minutes after taking the medication.

If you are taking Celebrex to treat arthritis, it may take up to two weeks before you feel the full benefit of the medication. If you are taking Celebrex on an “as needed” basis, you have to bear in mind that it will work better when taken at the first sign of pain. Waiting until the pain has worsened may result in the medication not working well.

Celebrex Dosage

The usual dose of Celebrex is once or twice daily for the entire course of treatment prescribed by the doctor.

Celebrex Side Effects

Bear in mind that your doctor prescribed this medication because he believes that the benefits to you are greater than the risk of side effects. Many people who use Celebrex did not experience any side effects.

Stomach upset or gas may occur after taking Celebrex. If any of these side effects worsen or persist, tell your doctor right away.

Celebrex may raise your blood pressure. Check your blood pressure regularly and report to your doctor if you get high results.

If you experience any other side effects that you believe are associated with your use of Celebrex, report to your doctor immediately.

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Celebrex before taking the medication. Inform your doctor if you are allergic to aspirin, other NSAIDs, other COX-2 inhibitors, or if you have other forms of allergy. Celebrex may have some inactive ingredients that can trigger an allergic reaction or other problems.

Tell your doctor your medical history before you start taking Celebrex. Kidney problems may sometimes occur with the use of NSAID medications, including Celebrex. This problem is likely to occur when you are dehydrated, have kidney or heart disease, or you an older adult. Drink plenty of liquids as directed by your doctor to prevent dehydration. Before undergoing any surgical procedure, tell your healthcare professional about the products you are using.

Older adults may be more sensitive to Celebrex’s side effects, including stomach bleeding and kidney problems.
