What is Esomeprazole?

A universal drug that is used to give remedy to some situations when the stomach is experiencing too much acidity is called Esomeprazole. This generic drug is used to heal stomach conditions such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, erosive esophagitis as well as gastroesophageal reflux diseases or (GERD). GERD is a type of concern in the stomach which is about the acid reflux, and which goes back into the esophagus.

Esomeprazole is a kind of PPI or Proton Pump Inhibitor. What it does is that it reduces the acid produced by the stomach..

What is Nexium?

Nexium is a brand of medication that goes under the generic name Esomeprazole. It falls under the proton pump inhibitor classification. Its main objective is to reduce the amount of stomach acid produced by the body.  Once this is achieved, the medication can treat conditions connected to excessive production of stomach acid. These conditions include Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and gastroesophageal reflux disease which goes by the name acid reflux.

Patients suffering from intestinal and stomach ulcers may take Nexium as medication. It can also prevent the development of gastric ulcer. This ulcer develops because of the presence of an infection with H. pylori. It may develop also by using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Nexium does not offer instant remedy for people suffering from heartburn. It may take a few days for them to feel the full effect. Patients must strictly follow the dosage literature that the medication comes with. But before doing so, it is important that the patient informs his doctor about all the medical conditions he is suffering from.

Patients who are allergic to other generic medication such as rabeprazole, pantoprazole, omeprazole, and lansoprazole might be allergic to esomeprazole as well. The best thing to do is to ask your doctor for an allergic test. Patients who are allergic to these generic medications must inform their doctors about it. If in case the patient accidentally takes in Nexium, he must get some emergency medical attention immediately for allergic reactions to the medication. Allergic reactions are the main reason why it is important for patients to strictly follow doctors’ orders when it comes to taking Nexium.
