What is Zimovane?
The name of your medicine is Zimovane tablets or Zimovane LS tablets (both called Zimovane in this leaflet). Zimovane contains a medicine called zopiclone. This belongs to a group of medicines called hypnotics. It works by acting on your brain to help you sleep.
Zimovane with the active ingredient Zopiclone is a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic drug that is used in the short term treatment of insomnia or sleep problems among patients. The treatment with Zimovane should last for up to 4 weeks.
Zimovane treats patients with difficulty sleeping at night, sleeping problems associated with psychiatric disorders, waking up too early in the morning and other sleeping issues those results to severe distress among sufferers.
How does Zimovane work?
Zimovane works receptors of the brain known as the ‘GABA’ receptors. This set of receptors is responsible for the release of neurotransmitters in the brain known as GABA.
GABA is the one that is dubbed as the nerve calming agent of the brain. It affords balance in the brain by placing equilibrium to the nerve activities and is responsible for relaxing muscles, minimizing anxiety, and induces sleep. Zimovane reduces the time it takes for one to fall asleep and the total number of times when one wakes up at night, thus improves the overall quality of sleep.
What are the benefits of Zimovane?
Zimovane is useful for patients who have problems sleeping. They could be suffering from difficulty falling asleep, wakes up in the middle of the night unable to resume sleep, and wakes up too early in the morning and other severe sleeping patterns that can result to distressing mental and health concerns.
Zimovane may be used for temporary and long-lasting sleep issues among patients. But, the medication is not indicated for everyday use for extended periods of time to treat depression and other related health problems.
How do I use Zimovane?
Zimovane comes in tablet form; it should be taken as a whole with a glass full of water without chewing, breaking, or gnawing on it. The medication Zimovane can be taken with or without meals.
Zimovane must be taken before sleeping every night at the same times.
If a patient on Zimovane happens to wake up in the middle of the night, never suggest another dose of Zimovane. Only one dose is advisable for a given night.
Take Zimovane before bedtime. If you happen to take a dose, do not take it at a later time or you will end up feeling dizzy, confused, and drowsy the next day you wake up.
Zimovane comes in a 7.5 mg tablet. Adults with sleeping problems can use a recommended dosage of one tablet taken orally before bedtime.
Elderly patients can take Zimovane tablet in lower strength of 3.75 mg for treating sleep problems. Depending on their age, health, and response to treatment, this dosage can be eventually increased if medically necessary.
Pediatric patients aged 17 years and lower are not advised to use the tablet for any sleep related issues. The efficacy and safety of this drug to be used among children and adolescents aged 17 years and lower has not been established.
The use of Zimovane tablet for patients with renal insufficiency must be for a lower dosage of 3.75 mg tablet.
Patients with chronic respiratory insufficiency must use a beginning dosage of 3.75 mg of Zimovane; later on it can be increased to up to 7.5 mg depending on patient’s medical condition, response to treatment, and as per doctor’s advice.
The treatment duration under Zimovane is 2-5 days for the treatment of transient insomnia, and for short term insomnia, it is two to three weeks.
