How To Take Mounjaro: UK Meds 8-Step Instructions
The Mounjaro injection instructions are included with the pen, but UK Meds have put together a simple step-by-step guide to help familiarise you with the process. Take a look below:
Step 1 - Check the Pen:
Before use, store unused pens in the fridge (2°C to 8°C) for safety. After injection, pens can be stored at room temperature (up to 30°C).
Before you start:
Ensure the pen is undamaged
The dose strength and medication name match your prescription
Ensure the injection pen is not expired
Check that the Mounjaro pen does not show signs of cloudiness or any particles (air bubbles are normal).
If you notice any issues, do not use the pen.
Step 2 - Wash Your Hands:
Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water or use an antibacterial hand sanitiser to ensure cleanliness before administering the injection.
Step 3 - Choose Your Injection Site:
Your doctor or prescriber can guide you in selecting the injection site, which can be the stomach or thigh for self-injection. If injecting into the back of your upper arms, seek assistance. Rotate the injection site to avoid injecting in the exact same spot each time.
Step 4 - Prepare the Pen:
Wipe the inner red seal with a swab, use a new needle for each injection, and remove the outer needle shield.
Step 5 - Prime the Pen:
Turn the dose knob until you hear two clicks, ensuring the '0' icon is displayed in the dose window. Prime the pen by tapping the cartridge holder to collect air bubbles, then release some medicine into the air.
Step 6 - Inject the Medicine:
Turn the dose knob until the '1' icon is displayed, insert the needle into your skin, and inject Mounjaro by pushing the dose knob until it stops. Count to 5 slowly.
Step 7 - Removing the Needle:
Ensure the '0' icon is displayed before removing the needle. If the full dose is not received, reinsert the needle without redialing the dose.
Step 8 - Dispose of the Needle:
After injection, replace the outer needle shield, unscrew the capped needle, and dispose of it in a sharps container. Do not dispose of needles in household waste. Replace the pen cap and, when finished with the monthly pen, dispose of it separately from the needle in your regular household bin.
